Plastic Literacy
Plastic Literacy: Empowering Healthier Futures
Frequent consumption of packaged foods—such as chips, chocolates, and toffees—significantly increases children’s exposure to harmful chemicals in plastics. Research shows that plastics can leach toxic endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA, phthalates, and microplastics into food and water. These toxins are linked to serious health issues including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, infertility, and PCOS in adults, as well as developmental challenges like autism, ADHD, hyperactivity, and dental issues in children.
Plastic Literacy means understanding the health and environmental risks of plastics and learning simple, effective ways to reduce exposure at home and in school. Empowering students and parents with plastic literacy helps protect children’s well-being and supports a healthier, more sustainable future.
